‘being inspired’
I wrote this on my New Year’s day valley walk when I came across a vehicle distastefully advertising in green how they were born to hunt followed by an image of a fox! It later became my subject with marks added to this paper construction for submission to the current Oriel Davies Gallery open writing competition theme ‘Crossed Paths’. FORTHCOMING COMING EVENT at the gallery: READINGS AND PRIZE GIVING on SATURDAY 9TH FEBRUARY 2.30 – 4 pm http://www.orieldavies.org/en/talks

Notes from my walk-a-logue continue as I explore the flora & fauna of this beautiful valley where I live: celebratory website coming soon……..
This abstract mixed media painting is part of the 10th Anniversary at the Mid Wales Arts Centre. The theme is from a poem The Bright Field by Welsh poet R.S.Thomas. I was inspired to submit this painting ‘In the moment’ because of the interpretation I read about the poem by the author Emily Ardagh who said “The Bright Field speaks about those shining moments in life…..”
My photograph will be on show this month in the Open Photography Exhibition at the Pen’rallt Gallery, Machynlleth, Powys This year’s theme is ‘Home’ and happened to coincide with my current research / art project where I have started a collection of photographs celebrating the beautiful Dernol Valley where I live. EXHIBITION OPENS 12 noon – 22 September. Please visit their website at: http://www.penralltgallerybookshop.co.uk/
I am currently collaborating on a new website project THE DERNOL VALLEY: this will be focusing on the interesting palaeontology, geology, flora & fauna here. It will feature artworks, photography and information about the valley e.g. the Dernol river just opposite to where I live has SSSI status and over 170 species of moths have been recorded visiting my garden.
Last Thursday I was invited to share my stories with the Aberhafesp WI group in their cosy community centre. FASHION, FISH & FOSSILS were just a few subjects covered that have inspired me as an artist.
