‘a nod to the Carboniferous period’ ~ two takes: video & photomontage
Harking back to times before swampy forests turned to coal 358.9 to 299 million years ago.
Hanging the temporary installation in the forest – cotton lengths and various threads.
PHOTOMONTAGE: Although I had not initially thought of using this technique, I combined two photos to add some context, one of the artwork and, as a background, one of the moss-draped trees adjacent to where it was hung. I first needed to photograph the installation in the forest, so I hung the cotton lengths between two trees, and draped various textured threads around the edges of the main piece as it hung in the landscape. The photograph (by Les Wilkins) of my artwork shows it amongst a backdrop of a group of trees that we had visited and photographed a few years ago, and I had kept the photo as I knew I wanted to incorporate it into my artwork one day.
